Never mind that though, instead you can get fit and get active right in the comfort of your own home with calorie burning activities you may have never thought of! Just think, it's a busy Sunday afternoon, beds to change, hoovering to do and a garden to mow! A person weighing approximately 150lb could burn 140 calories from a half hour mopping session, 120 calories for mowing the lawn and a further 75 calories for ironing.
If you look at people who are "naturally thin" they are often the ones who never stop moving! I have noticed this with several colleagues of mine who have children. They never seem to sit down, a simple brisk walk up and down the stairs can burn 10 calories easily. So just think how many would be burnt throughout the day when seeing children off to school, polishing and ironing. However, the best way to firm up those arms is to embark on a D.I.Y project in your home. Change your colour scheme and have fun by painting a room a new shade to liven it up and give your biceps some serious action!!! This could burn up to 204 calories for half an hours painting. You will certainly feel the effect of your efforts the following day!!!!!!!
So my top 5 activities to burn, burn, burn:
1. Mop the floors.
2. Mow the lawns - front and back!
3. Finish off that pile of ironing.
4. Walk up and down the stairs (Repeat this 3 or 4 times and that's 10 calories on each run!)
5. Do a little painting.
It is in everybody's capabilities to find activities that burn calories and to be more active particularly during the summer months. So why not make an effort this week to boost your energy levels and get burning those calories. And remember don't worry on the days when you feel as if you haven't done enough, we all burn around 50 calories for 8 hours sleep!!
